Taiwan

Tawain adopted their flag on October 28th of 1928.  Each ray of the flag represents two hours of the day.  Red recalls the Han Chinese.  

    Taiwan first became a province of China in 1886.  Taiwan did not remain under Chinese rule for a very long time, in 1895 China was forced to surrender the island to Japan at the end of the first Sino-Japanese War.  In 1912, the Repiblic of China was established.  At the end of World War Two, Japan returned Taiwan to China.  Two years later, anti-Chinese Nationalist wiolence erupted in Taiwan, but was quickly suppressed by Chinese troops.  Since becoming a free country, the island has been reconized as 'independent' by less than thiry countries.
